Chelmsford Borough Council now have a modern, energy-efficient new reception and customer service centre within their existing civic offices. Having already delivered several other refurbishment projects, they asked us to completely reconfigure and invigorate what was becoming an out-of-date facility.
The ground floor area – previously a number of small gloomy offices – has been totally transformed to create a modern, flexible working environment. An open plan office and reception area allows the customer services team to help with a range of services through a single point of contact. Council staff meet and greet customers from a 360-degree reception desk. Proprietary sound-rated partitions and ceilings provide extra private interview rooms close to the reception.

The works included removing and reconfiguring the existing roof with new North lights that bathe the reception area in natural light. The building stayed weather-tight while the roof was replaced by means of a contractor-designed temporary roof. The project was delivered on time and budget through the great team effort of our staff, our supply chain, our client and their consultants – building on the strong working relationships of previous contracts.
