The new building and additional car park area was constructed on behalf of Essex County Council on a frame-work agreement, a stand-alone single storey class-room block comprising of six class-rooms, studio hall, staff-rooms, boys and girls toilet’s, disabled toilet, cleaners cup-board and plant room covering a total of 579 square meters.
The foundation was strip and pad’s with a structural steel-frame supporting a 200mm plank floor at roof level. The covering to the roof was a three layer Soprema system on tapered insulation to three individual roof areas. The Building envelope was a mixture of cavity face block-work and Comar curtain walling with powder coated windows and doors. Internally the ceiling design was leaving the existing exposed floor plank and installing below large Acoustic ceiling tiles providing a new design concept by six foot studio. The mechanical specification was under-floor heating and ceiling void heat recovery units and natural ventilation units with combined C02 temperature sensors all meeting Breathing Building specification. The internal lighting was suspended led and power was via surface dado trunking.
Like many of the educational projects under-taken access for material deliveries, contractors and waste removal had to be military organised and planned as the school was live during most of the time on site. A strategy was developed and carried out minimising any disruption to the school.
The Head teacher is delighted with the new facility and commended all of the management and site staff of a job well done!
