“The home of scouting,” Gilwell Park is an international scout activity and training centre situated in north east London on the edge of Epping Forest.

Set within 108 acres of mature parkland, it’s a safe and inspiring environment where young people and adults can try out new activities, learn team-building skills, develop new friendships and have fun.

What had become a tired and no longer fit for purpose activity centre The Scout Association appointed us to help make their vision of a new modern facility a reality.

A new two bay extension was constructed extending the existing floor area by 150 m2 Construction included a new piled raft foundation slab with a structural steel clad structure.

The existing building also benefitted from an extensive overhaul including the re-cladding of the external fabric, new internal partitions, resin screeds and new services. The completed building now has new classrooms, briefing rooms, and a main activity area that includes a climbing wall, and a traverse wall and rope climb.

We made sure that waste to landfill was kept to an absolute minimum. Environmental initiatives included
waste segregation, depositing excavated material in and around the existing park, and the reuse and
recycling of materials.
